There are a number of active supports and resources available to community members:

Interim Housing

The Province of Newfoundland is supporting temporary housing for uninsured households that have major damaged or destroyed homes due to the wildfires. The program has been extended to Sept 30, 2026.

Debris Removal

Debris removed from damaged/destroyed properties, without insurance and within the Municipal boundaries, can be brought to the Municipal depot yard whereby the town will arrange disposal to the appropriate external facility.

The debris must be segregated (metal, ash and lumber & general waste) , please consult with the town maintenance personnel for specific locations within the depot yard.

The Town will be looking for remediation of all properties by Spring/Summer of 2026.

Properties not cleared within this timeline will be subject to the town policy on Yard Waste. (View Yard Waste Policy)

The Town will contact remaining affected properties regarding debris & hazards including open wells that have not been remediated by the above timeline and will endeavour to provide assistance within its capacity.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador offers a program that supplements of $200-$500 for eligible households using furnace or stove oil for heating. The deadline for submitting applications is January 15, 2026.

The Canadian Red Cross Case Management teams work directly with people to discuss their unique needs, help navigate their recovery journey, and access available supports, including housing repair and reconstruction support.

Community Foundations of Newfoundland and Labrador (CFNL)

Community Foundations of Newfoundland and Labrador is supporting those who lost their primary residences due to the 2025 wildfires. Funds are available to eligible residences, with applications open until June 7th, 2026.
