As a municipal government, preparation of the budget is among the most important tasks for Council each year. This budget reflects our commitment to progress, community well-being, and a brighter future for all.
We are mandated with presenting a balanced budget that maintains or improves the quality of life of our residents in a fiscally responsible manner.
The budget for the 2024 fiscal year was approved at the public meeting of Council on December 14, 2023.
Highlights
- No increase to the mil rate which will remain at 5 mils
- No increase to the minimum residential property tax
- No increase to vacant land tax
- No increase to water tax
- No increase to garbage fees
- Continuation of the low-income discount policy (Minimum income raised to $36,000)
- A 2% discount for taxes paid in full by Feb. 28, 2024
Council will continue to explore all opportunities for efficiencies and apply for grants which both help maintain and upgrade the town’s infrastructure as well as provide funding for events and activities for all residents.
We also recognize the work of our committees to improve our town with various initiatives. Securing funding for these initiatives demands effort.
