The Council has approved a budget for 2023 which will now be submitted to Government for approval.
After much deliberation it was deemed necessary to increase taxes due to rising costs of operation and services as well as interest rate increases.
The council is mandated to provide a balanced budget and must strive to have it realistic in regard to expenses and income.
- The poll tax will be eliminated
- There will be no increase to the water fees
- The minimum residential property tax will increase from $550 to $640
- The Mil rate on residential property will increase from 3.5 to 5.0
- Vacant land tax will increase from $50 to $100
- Garbage fees will increase from $180 to $190
- No new borrowing in planned for 2023
- Debt has been consolidated where possible
- Operational expenses have been minimized in all areas possible
- A Low-Income Discount Policy for Property Tax has been adopted
The town will continue to apply for grants which help to maintain and upgrade the town’s infrastructure and provide the funding for events and activities for all residents.
